Essentials for storing breastmilk and where to find it in Kathmandu

We all know breast milk is the best for your baby. For working moms and those who want more flexibility, the breast pump is your new best friend. It will let other trusted caregivers share in the bonding experience of feeding your baby while you get on with what you need to do – whether that’s sleeping, or working, or whatever else is on the schedule.

But, where do you get all the things you need for pumping and storing breastmilk? The good news is that you can get everything you need in Kathmandu. There are two different types of pumps mentioned below, a manual one and a silicone suction one – while both do a good job pumping milk with ease, some moms prefer one over the other, while others prefer to have both. Yoma has made a list just for you of essential things you’ll want to have when you begin. You can order all these items online and get them delivered to your home.

  2. Chicco Manual Breast Pump Natfeeling – Chicco
  3. Breastmilk storage bags – Pigeon, Dr Browns, Avent

1. Naturebond Silicone Pump from Baby Basics Nepal

When you are feeding on one breast there is often ‘let-down’ milk from the other breast which is wasted. This is where the Naturebond Silicone Pump comes in handy – it attaches to the breast that isn’t being used and collects the let-down milk, preventing any waste. And, as it uses suction, it is also a natural and comfortable way to pump breast milk. The NatureBond Silicone Breast Pump is CE certified, WHO-code compliant, and recommended by Certified Lactation Consultants. It is available at Baby Basics in Chaya Centre, Thamel.

2. Chicco Manual Breast Pump Natfeeling

This is an excellent manual pump for new moms as it latches easily and milk can be expressed with one hand. You will find that the Chicco manual pump is comfortable, efficient, and portable. All that and it can still express almost the same amount of milk as an electric pump! You can find it at the Chicco store in Labim Mall and Durbar Marg.

3. Breastmilk Storage Bags – Pigeon

Only a new mom knows how precious pumped breast milk is. To keep it fresh and safe for the baby, you will need to store pumped breast milk hygienically in a spill-proof container. We recommend bags you can store flat in a freezer as they are easier to store and easier to thaw. You will find a range of brands selling breast milk storage bags in Kathmandu. We’ve found that Philips Avent, Dr Browns, and Pigeon storage bags all do the job well, with only a slight difference in price.
