An ovulation predictor kit (OPK) is a home test – consisting of multiple ovulation test strips – that checks your urine to let you know when you are most likely to be fertile. When you get ready to ovulate, meaning to release an egg for fertilization, your body produces more luteinizing hormone (LH). The test strips check the levels of LH. It is recommended that you test on a strip at the same time each day to check when your LH increases. By detecting a surge in LH, it helps predict when you will ovulate.
