In today’s technology-driven world, home entertainment takes up multiple hours of the day. This is time that would otherwise be spent engaging in outdoor activities that are essential for the physical development and overall health of children. Our kids are engaging in more indoor activities that involve the overuse of screen time. On top of that, there is a decline in outdoor environments for children to have meaningful experiences in. 

Information on outdoor spaces for children is hard to come by, so we’ve put together a list of wonderful activities that you can enjoy with your kids that involves learning and physical activity in a holistic environment.

1. The National Botanical Garden at Godavari 

Ten kilometres south of Patan lies the famous Godavari Botanical Garden. For a reasonable entrance fee of Rs. 20 for kids under 10 years, and Rs 50 for the rest, you can enjoy the vast gardens containing 4,500 specimens of plants, at least 256 species of birds, and more than 300 species of butterflies and moths. A stream runs through numerous thematic gardens, where you can take pleasant strolls with your toddler. This is a great venue for family picnics, especially during weekdays if you want to avoid large crowds. 

In addition to the botanical garden, Godavari includes the famous Panch Dhara in Godavari Kunda just 200 meters away. The Godavari Kunda is a secluded complex that includes freshwater springs flowing from five ornate stone spouts into a beautiful fish pond. The surrounding lush green forests, as well as the local restaurants in the area, makes Godavari Kunda an ideal spot to take your children.

2. Wall climbing and outdoor playground at Astrek Complex 

Located in Amrit Marg, Thamel, the Astrek Complex is a fun hub of activity, food and entertainment for your whole family. It is a great place for children above the age of five, with activities such as wall climbing, zip-lining, and live music. Additionally, they have a smaller playground for children and a food court. 

Astrek Park is a great place to introduce children to activities that help develop essential skills, like hand-eye and foot-eye coordination, balance, directional awareness, and agility. A fee of Rs. 500-700 includes rental shoes, a safety belt, and a personal instructor. Included in the price will be five climbs, with no time limit. The park is suitable for all-weather and has free Wi-Fi, as well as ample seating, in case you want to work while your children have a wonderful climb.

3. Jumping at Jump KTM Trampoline Park 

Located in Mandikhatar, Kathmandu, JUMP KTM is Nepal’s first trampoline park. It has one of the most user-friendly websites that have a list of varying prices and offers for their guests to choose from. Make a quick phone call to book a spot for you and your children in a park that has numerous designated areas like the Free Jump Area, Dodgeball Area, Slam Dunk Area, and a Foam Pit among others. The venue also has the cutest Toddler Zone with small slides, a ball bit and attractive playthings. 

“Anyone can JUMP,” reads their website, adding that trampoline is not only a fun activity but also an aerobic exercise. If your kids tire from trampolining, you can grab a quick bite at their canteen that serves a limited array of food and soft drinks.

4. Tiger Lily Petting Farm and Hands-on Museum

The Tiger Lily Petting Farm & Hands-on Museum is located in Bhaktapur and is an educational petting zoo for children of all ages. Kids, families, and adults can learn about everyday food items like cereals and dairy products, as well as tools and machinery used in food production. There are baby lambs, chicks, rabbits, and ducklings to pet, and other fun activities such as archery, and pony rides. The price of admission is Rs. 300 for adults and children, and free for guardians and parents with kids. Group rates are available for groups of five or more, including a meal and drinks plan.
